Thumbs were hooked into his hip pockets. “S’it done then?” he queried about the whole Alaric mess.
[Sash] Ruhiger and Wagner were patrolling.
The Runt (“Is you fuckin’ dressin’ like me now?”) Theurge was playing…
…well, footsie with their Turf boundary.
(Ya put ya right foot in, ya put ya right foot out…)
She’d seen the Umbral carcasses.
Pretty damned impressive.
More than Evan playing Sushi with the Wyrm Hound.
Then again, teenagers are easy to impress.
When they hadn’t been at the game as long as…
…well the old fogies like Decker & Co.
(Ya put ya left foot in, ya put ya left foot out…)
She didn’t smell like she’d been dumpster diving.
Likely cause she smelled like she’d been Sewer Swimming.
Mmm… sewers.
[Ruhiger] She had trained The Snapper Turtle well. As for getting along, it would seem easily enough done. She doesn’t speak, she rarely does anything other then patrol, sleep, eat, feed Sniper, and do it all over again. Duty bound, duty driven, forever bitter grace.
She walks with purpose, for all their patrol is aimless and never ending. Long strides, long legs, standing 6’1″ in her heels that click a steady tattoo along the walk. Her hands are tucked into the pockets of her leather jacket that hangs to her calves, open to show the silken blouse and slacks beneath. Forever put together, perfection and the bearing of royalty- for all her blood holds nothing but thieves and whores.
To the inquiry, she nods – that odd nod up that all the eagles eventually succumb too, that says so many different things. This time it says ‘It is done.”
Simplicity at it’s best.
[James Wagner] It also appeared that amongst the Eagles nowadays, he’d become the mouthpiece for the pack since he generally talked more than anyone else. AnneMarie doesn’t speak; he’s never even heard her grunt in the time that he’s known the tall woman, and he’s known her quite a long time.
A hand reached up to scratch at his jaw, the man in sore need of a shave and a beard trim. The scratching turned into a brush of fingers through night-black hair, and he quirked a brow. “Good. Cannae say s’I’d be envyin’ ye, facin’ them… things,” he said in reference to the evil Fimbuls. He’d seen the corpses of them, and while not the Foeman’s Vigil, it was enough.
Then, it seemed that he paused without breaking stride. “Ye e’er get th’feelin’ that someone’s peekin’ o’er yer shoulder wit’out knowin’ fer sure? Think we got someone border-crossin’,” he added.
[Ruhiger] Her gaze darkens, and she comes as close to a scowl as she’ll allow. That is to say it appears and disappears in the space of a breath. They faced those things and she had been knocked on her ass and out for the last half of the battle.
They don’t call her bitter for nothing.
But she nods, slightly, again. Before lifting her eyes down the way, to find the Gnawer playing footsies with the border. A lift of her chin in that direction, and maybe, just maybe, under the darkness of the no-moon, a flash of amusement at the hokeypokey going on. But it disappears quickly too. It is who she is.
[Sash] She was eying off the storm drain…
…just yonder.
Just over the border.
Just out of her reach.
Under the flickering street light she could have sworn she saw something–
–something shiny.
Shiny, as everyone who is anyone knows, is a good thing.
Of course, that could only be her opinion.
Being a pack-rat.
Crow-like.
Granted, it could be a candy wrapper.
A dead battery.
A bottle top.
A piece of colored plastic.
Anything, really.
Mainly, she wanted to know what.
It was her curse, her blessing.
It was what motivated her.
Like that damnable question ‘Why?’…
…which she’d never grown out of.
(much to many people’s annoyance).
[James Wagner] Like that damnable question ‘why’?
That would be something the Galliard would of liked to ask, seeing as how he hadn’t run into the Bone Gnawer before. His gaze followed AnneMarie’s, and that formerly quirked eyebrow perked up again. That brief flash of amusement was lost upon James, and he only shook his head and stepped up his pace.
Three steps to a pace, two paces to a span, one thousand spans to the mile, two thousand miles to the league… Eventually the two reach Sash. “Would sort o’cause o’ th’fidgets would ye be ‘avin’,” the Irishman asked. “Steppin’ ’bout like a dancer at Beltane.” A bit of an amused smirk.
[wicked things.] It’s just past 3am. The street is blasted and still. The buildings look prehistoric in the light of the sodium lamps. Yesterday’s newspapers roll in the gutters. The cars lining the street are old and battered.
James and Ruhiger are converging on Sasha. She’ll soon be the least of their worries.
From afar, the sound of a thin, desperate scream. This isn’t unusual in this part of town. Someone’s on the run. Running fast, running hard, running scared. They can hear shoes pitter-pattering on the pavement. Getting closer. A street away. In the alley now. Closing in.
Another scream. It’s a girl (isn’t it always? — a damsel in distress). There’s some rude male laughter behind her. This, also, in not unusual.
[Sash] “Yipe.”
Yes, she said ‘yipe!’
Like a kicked puppy.
Alright, so it wasn’t exactly dignified.
But she had been absorbed by her Hokey Pokey…
…and eying off the storm drain.
At the very least, though, she didn’t fall over.
She did look like she almost had a heart attack.
Until she looked closer at the pair.
One was the cute guy from the gazebo.
–although he was oooooold.
One was the cute chick from the gazebo.
–heh. what?
“Oh. You tw–”
Course, anything else she might have said.
Was interrupted by the screaming.
(one day I’d like to hear a male screaming–
–like a horror movie chick. Just. For. Once.)
[Ruhiger] It looks like she won’t explain that amusement either, as they finally near the jittery dancing gnawer girl. James, of necessity and practice, does the talking. Sash says yipe, but that’s not what has the tall Modi’s attention. No, that’s the scream.
She turns in the direction it comes from, and one could swear her hackles are raised, for all she has no hackles in this form. Her gaze narrows, her spine tightens, and she watches. That the female scream is followed by male laughter? That causes her to take a step forward.
Just One. Tense and waiting, listening.
It is, after all, not all that unusual.
[James Wagner] Should Sash want to see a male scream like a frightened school girl, all one has to do is tell him they have set his precious guitars on fire and drank all his liquor. Panic would set in and James would rush home as if he had found out his child were trapped in a burning building. Thankfully for his sake, and for the sake of women and humanity in general, he had no children.
“Aye, an’—” The scream. Laughter from a male voice. Women may react with hostility to a man harassing a woman, but Irishman react worse. At least, this one did. Eyebrows drew down in outrage and indignation as he turned to the direction of the scream. He didn’t reply, didn’t even bother to speak. He did set out in a slow trot in the direction it came from.
[Sash] This was on their side.
She didn’t feel inclined to push the boundaries.
That and she didn’t know them well enough.
And they weren’t Gnawers.
Might not appreicate the help.
…not that she was much help.
Stompy-Stompy wise yet.
“Go get ’em, tiger.” — to James.
“Hit ’em hard, cutie.” — to AM.
[wicked things.] What is unusual is this:
The girl bursts out of the alley. She’s maybe 15. Maybe 16. Smooth brown skin, mile-long legs displayed to best advantage in a miniskirt so tight she couldn’t bend down without flashing someone. That’s likely the point. She’s quite pretty under the inches of makeup that cake her face, but another few years walking these streets and she won’t be.
Then again, maybe she won’t be after tonight.
But we digress. The girl bursts out of the alley — trips over something, goes sprawling. Skins her knees. Clambers up. Most nights, she’d take one look at the gathered Garou and run the other way. But tonight, makeup streaming, hair coming undone, one flimsy plastic 4″ heel now broken, she wobbles straight toward them. “Help me.” She’s screaming, hoarse, sobbing. “Help me oh please, help.”
That’s one unusuality.
Here’s another.
(Pay attention now.)
The girl steps into the street. She doesn’t get two steps into the street when her pursuer — just a dark shape at the far end of the alley a second ago — simply
blinks forward and cuts her off.
(Didn’t catch that? Let’s watch it again.)
One second, he’s at the other end of the alley. The next, he moves so fast he’s a blur to the Garou’s (as-yet) rageless eyes. It’s amazing the ground doesn’t light afire in his wake. He blocks the girl off and shoves her back with one meaty hand. She goes sprawling over the curb at a bad angle. There’s a crack. She screams, a new note: pure bright pain. He’s about seven feet tall, so muscular it’s almost obscene, and moves with the deliberation of a man fording a river. His laugh sounds like someone grinding stones at the bottom of a well.
[James Wagner] “Ye’re bloody fookin’ right I’ll ‘elp ye,” he said. The Spirit of the Fray made him fast, but only when he anticipated it. He hadn’t expected the huge man to shoot out from the alley like a shot from a gun and make the woman — no, the girl go ass-over-tits across the sidewalk. James is growling, now. Soft and feral, and his eyes are narrowed with the pupils tight pinpricks.
“Stay down, lass! I’ll be kickin’ ‘is bloody fookin’ arse fer ‘urtin ye!” he called, and turned to face his attacker. “What’re ye ’bout, ye bloody fool? Knockin’ wimmin ’bout like s’damned pig-kissin’ brute!?”
[Ruhiger] …cutie? She glances back at Sash, her gaze narrowing slightly. Before the girl comes into view and demands her attention again.
And then (…blink. Wait, what was that?) She snarls, a soundless curl of her lip. James takes off at a Jog, and AnneMarie isn’t but half a step behind.
She might have invited Sasha along, just for kicks, but the Gnawer disappeared before she could think twice about it. James is loud and brash, and steps between the girl and the man. AnneMarie steps up as well, though she watches them both. She’ll not be assuming the girl is not a part of this.. not yet.
[wicked things.] The enormous, and we mean fuckin’ enormous, enormous as in early-CbN-500lb-Garou-with-0.01%-body-fat enormous, man takes one giant step toward the girl, catches her by the back of the neck, and hauls her up like a rag doll. Her broken foot slams against the curb, then dangles. Imagine, please, the pain this might inflict, and then channel it into an appropriate sound.
The girl isn’t even screaming anymore. She’s making a sound that human beings ought not be able to make: an animal howl of pain.
Then James speaks up. And the giant turns around. He has a cro-magnon face, with eyes set so deep in their sockets that they were invisible in the overhead lighting cast from the streetlamp. He grins at them and spits through his teeth.
“Find your own fuck, Irish.” A voice to match the laugh: glacial, elemental, boulders grinding together. “This hot little cunt’s all mine.”
[James Wagner] Anger, white hot and blazing burns within James’ chest as another primal growl issues from his throat. The strain of it is so much that his words are forced to perfect English, his brogue diminishing. “I do not bloody think so.”
James is 6’2″, but we’ll see how well the fool can manage against the might of a Fiann. James darted forward, the Spirit of the Fray coming to the fore. “Put her the fookin’ hell down!”
[Ruhiger] Well. AnneMarie, she’s not as brash as the Irishman, but that is not to say she likes this guy beating around the girl anymore then her possible packmate might. James surges forward, and while she does not have spirit of the frey, she steps too as well – moving to flank the giant man.
It’s simple, in her mind. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. And he is about to fall.

[Ruhiger] She sees some sort of shapes, and now they’re doing some sort of shape shiftery magic, and that’s certainly not good either. There is no more then a glance between potential packmates if that. James has Magnus, and AnneMarie takes off at a dead run to the side of the building with magic making shapes, and the ladder there – where she’s up and scrambling up the fire escape to reach – and hopefully stop – them. As she moves she musters her will to resist the pain that will surely come.
[James Wagner] James has no such skills to resist pain. He’s only got sheer determination and grit, plus his nifty super-speed.

[wicked things.] The big guy — his name is appropriately Magnus, though they might never learn this — is not alone.
When the Garou dash to the offensive, his friends up on the roof get ready to brawl as well. There are two men up there, one woman. Neither James nor Ruhiger can see them well, or they’d see that they are all three quite different.
Estelle and Ludovic are both pale, slender, young, blonde, unspeakably lovely. They are alike enough to be siblings, perhaps even twins.
Aureliano is husky, perhaps in his 40s, a robust man with olive skin and black hair.
None of this really matters now. Both Aureliano and Ludovic begin to work some dark change within themselves — the first being consumed with what looks like darkness made flesh; the other being overtaken by a painful, grotesque transformation that warps his seraphic features into something out of a nightmare. His bones seem to grow too fast for his flesh. He ends up a skeletal creature, leathery skin stretched taut as a drum over a bulging ribcage, jutting hip girdle. He drops to all fours and moans, low and animal, as the bones rip through his skin and form jagged spurs all down the line of his spine, and at the joints of the knuckles and elbows and knees.
Meanwhile, Estelle becomes something beyond beautiful: a creature so terrible, so awesome, that it’s almost impossible to look at her.
—
On the street, James steps up to Magnus. The giant swings the hapless girl by the arm, using her as a club. A very unwieldy, screaming club. He misses James altogether, but he does not miss the concrete. The girl hits with a crunch of shattering bones and liquefying internal organs. She stops screaming. The giant laughs, and lets her slip from his grasp to puddle on the pavement, barely alive.
James punches him.
It bounces off Magnus. It’s like punching a rock.
Then Magnus grabs him around the throat, barely blinking as the Garou punches him square in the face. He opens his mouth. His breath is foul and cold. He has elongated canines. He bites James, twice in quick succession, undaunted by the Garou’s sudden shift into Hispo.
—
Meanwhile, up on the roof, Aureliano’s shift has failed him. Snarling in fury, the man attempts something else…
…while Ludovic falls prey to the Fenrir fury boiling up the ladder. For all his terrible appearance, the monstrosity is fragile. His bones crunch easily under the Modi’s sharp teeth. He tastes like gravedust and ash, and his blood is cold. The last bite undoes him: with a shriek that’s nowhere near human, the creature collapses.
A second later, he begins to decay right before Ruhiger’s eyes. But she won’t watch long if she knows what’s good for her. The Goddess-that-was-Estelle’s pistol bucks in her fineboned hand. Her aim is fantastic. The slug should’ve ripped half of Ruhiger’s face off, but barely scars the Metis’ toughened hide.
“We’ve got a problem here, Aureliano,” Estelle murmurs, her deft fingers reaching into her purse.
“Yes. I see that.” The man cranes his neck to look over the edge of the building. “Magnus! We’ve got lupines!”
“NO SHIT, FUCKHEAD.”

[Ruhiger] She doesn’t watch. Ludo falls beneath her claws and that is all she needs to know as she steps forward to the next target, Aureliano. He was shifting as well, and that cannot be allowed. Crinos lips snarl soundlessly as she moves, and strikes again with deadly claws.
There are indeed Lupines here.

[wicked things.] (splat. writing sum-up, will be quick.)
[wicked things.] On the roof, the hispo-wolf is implacable. She shreds Aureliano before he can act, and then turns on Estelle. The woman — no; let’s be accurate. The vampire lashes out with the full force of her dazzling majesty, but Ruhiger presses through. Estelle fires again and again in vain. The bullets strike home. Hot salty blood patters over the rooftop. But the Fenrir just. keeps. coming.
At the last, the vampire turns and tries to run. It doesn’t help her. Ruhiger’s claws come down; the damage is monumental.
One more pile of decayed bones and dust on the roof.
—
Below, James doesn’t fare as well. Magnus is enormously strong, and the Galliard can’t seem to break out of his grasp. One bite tears the side of the Sandman’s throat out. It’s a fatal wound. It’s beyond fatal. But Garou are resilient, and Garou are damned hard to kill.
Sandman hangs on by a hair. And Magnus, oblivious of the fate of his friends, settles into a nice warm meal.
[wicked things.] (Magnus’ declare: drinking blood until further notice.)
[wicked things.] (however, Magnus reserves the right to take up to 3 extra actions)
[Ruhiger] Another pile of dust, leaves Ruhiger standing there, crinos shoulders heaving a breath as she finds one body that remains. Time to see how James fairs. Claws hook into Aureliano’s leg on the way by and she drags him behind her as she goes back down, doing her best to kill him completely on the trip. Thud. Thud. Thud. It’s all about multitasking.
(Splitting first action to drag Aureliano back down to the street with her as fast as possible. Then 1 rage, two claw for Magnus.)
[Ruhiger] (claw 1/2)
Dice Rolled:[ 9 d10 ] 2, 3, 4, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 9 (Success x 5 at target 6)

[Ruhiger]
Dice Rolled:[ 2 d10 ] 8, 9 (Success x 2 at target 6)
[wicked things.] (soak)
Dice Rolled:[ 5 d10 ] 5, 6, 10, 10, 10 (Success x 4 at target 6)
[wicked things.] (magnus don’t feel nothin’. *LOL* next attack)
[James Wagner] James – Laying, in Crinos, getting drank on. Hopefully the Cainite’ll frenzy on Garou blood.
[Ruhiger] (2/2 HAIL KAHSEENO!)

[wicked things.] (soak)
Dice Rolled:[ 5 d10 ] 1, 8, 8, 9, 10 (Success x 3 at target 6)
[wicked things.] Unfortunately, Aureliano is remarkably hard-skulled. The vampire thud thud thuds all the way down and fails to die. Then Ruhiger lays into Magnus. With his back turned, his head bent to drink, the giant resembles a boulder. A mountain.
The first hit doesn’t even scratch him. He doesn’t even feel it. He continues to drink, rapt, lost on the richness of Garou blood.
The second is a different story. Just deep enough to open undead flesh and start the slow trickle of cold blood, it brings Magnus raging, bellowing about.
“HOW DARE YOU!”
[wicked things.] (Magnus: 1. grabs the girl 2. whacks Ruhiger with it 3. grapple 4. bite ruhiger)
[Ruhiger] Oh she’s beyond pissed off, and that snarling silent, oh so silent crinos smirk says so. Magnus whips around, and demands how she dares and she resolves to show him just how much she dares hate the blood sucking asshole drinking her prospective packmates blood…
(split first action, 1 rage = 1a claw, 1b claw, 2 claw)
(1a – HAIL KAHSEENO!)

[wicked things.] (Magnus is dead. He can’t soak enough even if he aced his roll. Wrapping up!)
[Ruhiger] ((BOOYAH!))
[wicked things.] The answer to that, of course, is that Ruhiger dares. Period.
The silent Modi moves in for the kill. Most of her wounds have closed between the then and the now. Bullets have been pushed out of closing wounds to ping on the ground. Gunpowder burns have healed. She is silent, swift and deadly. Her claws flash twice. Magnus hits the ground, nearly torn asunder, and is ash a moment after.
[James Wagner] ( Well, James is like… taking a little nap, so.. AM can carry him off. I need to sleep. Fo’ real. )
[Ruhiger] Magnus falls, and that leaves only the hardheaded creepy dude, who’s still knocked out, yet not dead. She turns, and with a silent snarl, and once massive swipe, decapitates the fucker. So, to sum it up, we now have – Four Vampires. Dead. One prospective Irish Packmate, bleeding, but alive. All told, it could have been a lot worse. All told, it very nearly was.
She shifts down with a roll of her head on her shoulders, shrugging back into monkey skin, as she kneels and checks to see if the damsel in distress survived, at all.
[wicked things.] Amazingly, the damsel in distress — although knocked out cold — is breathing.
Reality check, though. Half her face was pulverized when she hit the ground. Teeth have come loose. Ribs have broken and pierced internal viscera. She’ll survive, with a lot of medical care. But she’ll never look the same again. What few glory years she might’ve had as a prostitute are quite over. It’ll be dollar sucks in bus stops from here on out.
[James Wagner] ( Anyway. I’m off! Night all. )
[Ruhiger] It would probably be a blessing in disguise if AnneMarie finished off the girl, too. But the girl is innocent – as innocent as a hooker can be, at least. So AnneMarie makes a call over Eagle’s wings.
Someone Call 911. Give them this address. (gives it) Tell them there’s a girl who’s been beat all to hell, and will die if they don’t get here. I’m carrying James back to the kinhouse. Decker, is there a bloody bandage there? If not – Evan, James needs healed. And the Green is now minutes 4 bloodsucking assholes. Be there in 10.
[wicked things.] (night man!)
[Ruhiger] (night ken!)
[Ruhiger] (minutes = minus)
